While the Canadian government insists that the Flipper Zero is one of the reasons behind the current surge of car thefts in the country, Flipper Devices, the company behind the devices, says the gadget can’t be used to steal vehicles built within the last 24 years.

    Absolutely mind-numbingly dumb.

This sets such a bad precedent and worries me for our nation’s future.

Not only dumb, but aren’t Flippers made in really limited quantities? I’ve missed the past few drops because of how quickly they sell out

And you can’t really use a flipper to steal a car. Anything made in the last 30 years will have rolling codes, which the flipper doesn’t mimic, and anything before that you’re gonna have to break mechanical ignition locks.

  • Banning it won’t work, the same way banning anything else hasn’t worked. The criminals will keepp getting it or alternatives and law abiding citizens lose a great learning tool.

I mean it’s kind of ingenious if you think about it. Make the Flipper Zero illegal to keep law-abiding citizens from learning about security and programming, while not actually preventing criminals from getting them, so that it’s harder to learn how to prevent said criminals from using the device illegally

Wait actually that sounds fucking stupid

Live in the states, so this doesn’t affect me. But I finally ordered one just in case.
