it’s literally just because there’s a dang brandon in the white house

there is no deeper analysis to be found and you shouldn’t bother looking for it

It isn’t that wild. They’ve embraced the view of Russia as a country of Based Anti-Woke Trads and the Ukrainians as Antifa Gay Untermench.

It’s the exactly same set of propaganda but one side thinks “Opposite of liberalism, so good actually”.

Yeah but it’s not like the Dems are saying “Support Ukraine against the conservative anti-woke trads of Russia” they’re saying “Support Ukraine again Russia’s communist imperialism” which sounds like a winning message for the republicans too. The Ukrainians are openly flying Nazi flags and the republicans are like “Nah we’ll take diet fascism this time”

“The Russians are going to kill all of Ukraine’s LGBT population and steal their children and rape their women” is a significant through-line of the liberal argument for arming Zelensky’s government.

The Ukrainians are openly flying Nazi flags and the republicans are like “Nah we’ll take diet fascism this time”

The national media has turned a total blind eye to the Ukrainian Fascism. The whole face of the debacle is this tiny bearded comedian in combat fatigues and the assorted women and children spilling out of the country as refugees. When Ukrainians in uniform do appear on camera, they love to sport rainbow flags and pride symbols, nevermind whether they’re actual soldiers or just PR spokesmodels in camo face paint.

I wish I could say “a stopped clock is right twice a day” but Republicans are against it simply because Ukraine has become Biden and the Democrats’ baby.

When this whole shit began in February 2022, RW media was talking about how Biden was soft on Russia and wasn’t doing enough to help Ukraine. Then when he started sending weapons and his approval went up a few points, the republicans quickly changed their their tune.

It’s all vibes, really. If their opponent supports something, they’re against it, and vice-versa.

Beyond contrarianism, I think it’s also that the GOP sees Iran and China as the USs REAL enemies and thinks fighting with Russia is a waste of time.

I would phrase it as “They desire the correct action” without understand why that action is correct.

Opposition to imperialism from the left vs. from the right. One is progressive and one is regressive. The main idea of Republicans is that the war is a waste of money (“America first!”, no understanding of imperialism), and the connection some feel with Russia due to social reaction is not separate but the same deal, an attraction to pre-monopoly capitalism.

I’d say it’s more “Democrats are supporting Ukraine right now.” If Trump gets elected he’ll broadly carry on the same policy and they’ll flip on it.
