Nuclear energy is more expensive than renewables, CSIRO report finds::Renewable energy provides the cheapest source of new energy for Australia, a new draft report from the CSIRO and energy market operator has found.
I’m not an expert in this, but I’ve heard Steve Novella talk about it.
As I recall, his view is that this is all extremely nuanced due to the advantages and limitations of what could come to the table in coming years.
E.g. renewables offer almost free energy, but either have to be consumed now, or stored in batteries. But battery tech is lagging, and there’s a finite supply of lithium and cobalt… etc.
And that we will probably need to hedge our future energy technologies. It’s likely no one method will suffice for all of out needs and perhaps some prospective methods will fail.
TLDR: sounds complicated…
