    Studs Terkel, later a legendary local radio host and author but then a struggling actor, visited the scene the next day to perform at the union’s makeshift first aid station. He compared the massacre’s hobbling and bandaged survivors to the damaged Civil War soldiers memorably captured by photographer Matthew Brady.

    That guy was legit. I miss him.

      There’s a Studs Terkel podcast that is just the raw recordings of his interviews. Brilliant stuff!

          And just like that, I’ve subscribed to yet another podcast. I don’t know that I would have bothered to look it up myself (actually, I do know; I wouldn’t have). But making it so easy that it took no effort worked. Thank you.

          Also, what an important piece of history to learn about. I’m definitely going to assimilate this into my pro-union / pro-worker philosophy.
