Ranges is a great band! Played them all day today after seeing your post. Really love the Bonhoeffer album.
How’s that record player sound an quality wise? I was under the impression that those are mostly gimmicks. How does it hold up to a “regular” record player?
It sounds good tbh. Although basic (fixed cartridge, no tone arm lever, fixed tracking force), its actually pretty decent. Miles better than any of those suitcase players you see around.
It has a ATN3600L moving magnet cartridge and a conical stylus which can be upgraded to an eliptical one, if you so wish.
I like it because I can take it to any room in the house and listen. I have a battery powered headphone amp i use with it :)
And when I’m done, it packs away into its hard case:
I discovered Ranges recently and managed to win an ebay auction for the album.
The post rock is stellar, and as a fan of ambient drone noises, the interludes really work for me too.
The record player is the audio technica SB727: aka the reissued sound burger.
Fully battery powered by a (replaceable and standard) 18650 battery. Built in preamp. Line out or Bluetooth. It’s great fun 😁
