I know people love to idolize FDR, but the way he got the New Deal passed was with the argument that it was the “bare minimum we have to do to ensure that socialism doesn’t take root in the US for at least another 70 years.” Which is why the politicians started trying to revoke those promises the day after it passed.
Stalin was ruthless, not stupid. He would have looked at the existing barriers and realized that it would be a waste of resources to try to build a wall in the middle of a desert.
