Lindsay Ellis did a really good video about how Green Day were the first ones to break America out of the jingoistic fever and into Bush-era protest music without the backlash that many others in the past felt (including Dixie Chicks).

I think it helped that unlike the Dixie Chicks, conservatives didn’t make up a large portion of the Green Day fanbase. Conservatives were still very offended by American Idiot.

It was. But I also don’t think they (she, originally) expected a comment in London to go viral.

And how you gotta stand up to Him? What the fuck does that even mean? All their songs are about how “hey, you can’t just be telling people how to live like that. People are individuals with thoughts and ideas AND ALSO YES FARTS ARE FUNNY AND I’M TIRED OF PRETENDING LIKE THEY AREN’T”

Yeah, I was bewildered lol. Same guy thought Sweet Children was Billie Joe’s choir endeavors.

Like, just cause BJA was in choir at age 10 doesn’t mean he’s making religious music lmao

Certain crowds can’t fathom being any different from how you were raised up because They’re too scared of being their authentic selves
