minus-squareAdmiral PatricklinkfedilinkEnglish34•edit-26 months agoShould we…make a playlist? I’ll add two more. Green Day - American Idiot CCR - Fortunate Son Woodie Guthrie - This Land is Your Land (via @MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.net – updated to different version with the “lost” verse) System of a Down - Prison Song (BYOB is a close second) Descendants - 'Merican (Added from @MermaidsGarden@lemmy.world’s suggestion.) John Mellencamp - Little Pink Houses (via @jawa21@lemmy.sdf.org) Stone Sour - Come What(ever) Avenged Sevenfold - Blinded in Chains (last two via @clearedtoland@lemmy.world) Flobots - Handlebars (via @fireweed@lemmy.world) NOFX - Idiots are Taking Over (via @HootinNHollerin@lemmy.world) Rage Against the Machine - Know Your Enemy (via @middlemanSI@lemmy.world) Disturbed - Land of Confusion | Genesis - Land of Confusion (via @GladiusB@lemmy.world) Adding the “lost verse” for 'This Land is Your Land": “One bright sunny morning in the shadow of the steeple, by the relief office I saw my people. As they stood hungry, I stood there wondering if God blessed America for me.”
minus-squarejawa21link4•6 months agoLittle Pink Houses. The point in this song is often missed as well.
minus-square@MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netlinkfedilink4•6 months agoCan’t believe I forgot this one - South Park did a fantastic job bringing Sixteen Tons into the modern era.
minus-squareAdmiral PatricklinkfedilinkEnglish2•6 months agoThat is a good one. I may save that for my Labor Day playlist.
minus-square@middlemanSI@lemmy.worldlinkfedilink4•6 months agoRage against the machine - Know your enemy seems relevant. Also maybe Freedom
minus-square@MelodiousFunk@slrpnk.netlinkfedilink4•edit-26 months agoWould be remiss in not including a version of This Land is Your Land that includes the oft-omitted verses. This version seems to have all of the verses. Sweet! The Times They Are A-Changin (Bob Dylan) and The Revolution Will Not Be Televised (Gil Scott-Heron) are also classics. *edited to add links @ptz@dubvee.org
minus-squareAdmiral PatricklinkfedilinkEnglish2•6 months agoNice one. Added and included the lost verse.
minus-squareGladiusBlinkfedilink3•6 months agoLand of Confusion would be another addition. I’m in favor of the Disturbed version.
minus-squareAdmiral PatricklinkfedilinkEnglish3•6 months agoExcellent addition. I also prefer the Disturbed cover, but I added both.
minus-square@fireweed@lemmy.worldlinkfedilink3•edit-26 months agoHandlebars by Flobots, White America by Eminem You should make this a separate thread!
minus-squareAdmiral PatricklinkfedilinkEnglish2•edit-26 months agoI thought about that, but I don’t know if it’ll maintain inertia. Hopefully people see a lot of comments in this post and decide to chime in. Perhaps I can put the result into a Spotify playlist and post that afterwards?
minus-square@clearedtoland@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglish3•6 months ago Come What(ever) May by Stone Sour Blinded in Chains by Avenged Sevenfold Bush-era (same as American Idiot) but shockingly still relevant. Too heavy for this list?
minus-squareAdmiral PatricklinkfedilinkEnglish2•6 months agoNot at all; it’s the messages that are important. I mean, I already put SOAD on there, so… lol
minus-square@clearedtoland@lemmy.worldlinkfedilinkEnglish2•6 months agoMezmerize was such a damn good album. Popping that on for the day.
minus-square@cleanandsunny@literature.cafelinkfedilink2•6 months agoMay I suggest “Don’t Let Me Die in America” by of Montreal? (Confusingly, an American band) Also “Sunset on 32nd Street” by Strike Anywhere - although you could pull any track off that whole album and it would work.
minus-square@send_me_your_ink@lemmynsfw.comlinkfedilink1•6 months agoWhat about The Sound of Silence . I’m partial to Disturbed’s version, but the original by Simon and Garfunkel fits depending on the mood.

Fits perfectly. Added!

NoFX - The Decline (full version)

NOFX is perfect on that list.
What about
The Sound of Silence
