Daniel Jackson, 35, was arraigned Saturday in 52-1 District Court in Novi via videoconference on a felony charge of receiving and concealing stolen property worth more than $1,000 but less than $20,000, Wixom police said.

Wixom police said officers had a known serial retail fraud suspect under surveillance at 10:30 a.m. Thursday after they received a tip he planned to strike at a Meijer store. […] According to the tip, the suspect planned to steal a large quantity of trading cards from the store.

After consulting with the store’s loss prevention officers [emphasis mine – r2 ], detectives estimated the value of the stolen property was more than $18,000 [again, emphasis mine ].

Loss prevention officers? Does that mean what I think that means?

It doesn’t mention how he was stealing the cards. Presumably he would ask to look at one and then ask about another to distract while pocketing the first?

I assumed he was just stealing them from stores. I recently tried to buy some pokemans for a gift and the clerk not only had them behind the register but in a lockbox.

Yeah it was around 2014ish when it got bad in Macomb county at least. You used to have to go to the toy/board game aisles for them but they’ve all since moved trading card stuff to the front of the store in most big box places now. (Meijer/Target/Wal-mart)
