Yep, existing for old cards would be great, but it was never even supported properly on old cards, instead it became a crutch for game performance on all GPUs and Nvidia started locking newer versions behind their new hardware and paying developers to implement it and advertise it.

81·24 hours agoWe are already at chonky UIs, every webpage/app has 80% less information on the screen at any time than they did 20 years ago.
Its an interesting issue, because if we found a place like this in our times, we would immediately start excavating.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My fellow 'Muricans, do you prefer metric or standard measurements?
1·2 days agoIt doesn’t? Nobody needs the accuracy of 3 digits to tell the temperature, a 1°C change is just about perceivable to us. So having more of a scale is irrelevant, we dont generally use decimals in weather reports because it’s not needed (and if you do want more, then having 3 digits is literally a non-issue).
You also use a sign for negatives in Farenheit when it gets that cold and you use 3 numbers when it gets that hot. This is the first time I’ve ever heard this argument for Farenheit aha, it’s like clutching at straws.
Basing Celsius around water, something we all come into contact to, which we freeze and boil all the time. Is not really an “arbitrary” scale. Farenheit was based on a solution of brine for 0 and then a rough estimate of human body temperature for 100, two things not even related.
You wouldn’t like Kelvin, that uses 3 numbers.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•My fellow 'Muricans, do you prefer metric or standard measurements?
3·2 days agoDon’t be scared of decimals. But it’s whatever you are used to for measurement units. If you grow up with one, the other won’t make any sense. You will prefer what you are used to.
Degree Celsius is just generally more preferable because it has an easy to understand, and to explain, scale. 0°C being water freezing and 100°C being water boiling. Degree Farenheit is just whatever the fuck (hence why the whole world adopted degree Celsius).
Same with the rest of the metric system, it’s all divisible nicely. The USA is just stubborn to change, but are slowly converting, they will probably end up like the UK, using both.

2·3 days agoThey have acknowledged the offline messaging part. It does work in group chats and has E2EE there, but I think it’s something they are going to look into for servers. It’s closed source, so we are at the mercy of their few developers and cannot help. While I do trust them more than Discord, I would rather have an open solution, like Stoat/Fluxer, take off instead.

1·6 days agoIm allowed to express my opinion on a topic or someone as much as anyone is. If you dont like that, you dont have to engage with it. If someone disagrees with me or calls me an asshole, that’s fine, I’ll take their opinion onboard, but I wont lose sleep over it.
Hounding someone would be commenting about them in every location possible, which I am not doing. If multiple people share my opinion and have posted it elsewhere, thats also not hounding.

Games@lemmy.world•Lutris now being built with Claude AI, developer decides to hide it after backlash
1·6 days agoIt’s always the extreme comparisons…
You must simply sit in an empty space and do nothing in order to avoid links to some disgusting actions or morals. You arent stupid, you know that.
I avoid GitHub as much as I can, but you know it’s impossible to completely avoid it while still using many FOSS projects. But lets see, if I visit GitHub to download a project, I am only using up their bandwidth, costing Microsoft money, not giving them any. Youll argue the clicks increases their popularity and thats worth more etc and on and on…
Hardware… yes of course… the food you eat… yes… its pointless comparisons. A classic argument technique though.
The talking point is AI and I avoid AI as much as I can.

72·7 days agoLmao. I have nothing but respect for FOSS projects and have donated plenty of money to many.
What I am not supporting is the use the of AI, if they want to, then they can, I will just stop using their project.
Yes, you are an asshole if you dont disclose it and the comments I’ve seen from him just cements that for me more.
AI can fuck off, we havent needed it for decades and decades, we dont need it now.

People arent understanding how free solar is, its cheap to install and maintain and has no further cost for producing energy, the fuel is the sun. Why would China want to spend money on coal, on the plants, the maintenance of them, when they can erect a solar array in the vast space they have and cut some grass around it every couple weeks.
