  • I have a giant head. I am the reason hat makers say “One size fits most.” Most sunglasses hurt to wear.

I second Maui Jim, but those are pricey. Really what youre looking for are decent sunglasses with wide, metal frames and spring hinges at the temples. Then you very carefully and very slowly bend out the end pieces, the metal arms between the lenses and the hinges. It’s more difficult than it sounds because you’ll likely not bend them straight out at first. They’ll be a little tilted on your face. This is why you go real slow, making a lot of tiny adjustments till they feel and look right.

Sunglass shops will do this for you. They have pliers with plastic teeth that dont mark the metal. My Maui Jims were adjusted this way for me. Now when I buy glasses I carefully DIY it.

    I wish you luck!

  • While snorkeling at St John USVI I was following a sea turtle from a distance. It was just such a vibe to watch this thing eating the turtle grass. Then some asshole comes flailing towards the turtle with a gopro on a stick and basically starts poking it. The turtle swam away with the guy chasing it. Pissed me off so much.

I went to a bar that evening and told the bar tender this story. He stopped what he was doing and looked sternly at me. He said in that moment I witnessed the turtle being harassed, if I had swam to shore and gotten some locals to help find a ranger then the dude would have been lucky to just walk away with a large fine and not get his ass kicked by the locals as well. Bartender made me promise to report it if I saw it again.

  • This is something that starts to emerge from those “egg” meme communities. “Egg” is slang for a trans person who doesn’t know it yet, and there are little pockets on the internet that share egg memes. Over time the memes and discussion can start getting kind of… pushy/aggressive? Not exactly the word I’m looking for, but I hope it gets the point across.

Basically it’s the same thing you’re talking about. As memes do, they oversimplify until everyone is an egg. Which isn’t exactly a bad thing, but also are we not dictating everyone’s destination before they even start their journey?

The vast majority of what we do is just trying to get the body to a spot where it can manage the issue itself because we don’t have the means to do it ourselves.

Personalized medicine is the frontier that everyone has been trying to break into since the race to decode the human genome. What a lot of people don’t realize is that for every drug that goes to market there are thousands of promising candidates that are shelved due to a small population of adverse effects.

Now imagine what we can do if we can screen for those effects. Overnight the market would be flooded with powerful, effective medications with much fewer side effects. And that’s just medical drugs.

  • When I was young my parents encouraged me to watch Marx Brothers, Three Stooges, and Abbott & Costello. These are easy things for children to watch because the physical comedy is universal.

As I got older my love for them remained, but also it gave me a love for media from any age. So long as it’s done reasonably I think this sort of thing can be quite enriching.
