So for your first point, I completely agree. The only time I think I’d be ok with this behavior is if it was at the very end of the page/article (which I’m not sure any of them are). Some are so egregious (especially the websites that have more than one) that I will turn on reader view as a potential mitigation.
As to the second point, I’m pretty sure I’ve seen options for ‘load tabs in the background’ in browser settings. It would definitely be worth looking into if that’s something that bothers you. Personally, it’s a non-issue for my specific circumstances.
