Honestly, so far I have had no issues at all, I just run an update every now and then. I assume it’d be more difficult if this wasn’t a gaming-specific partition, as that means I haven’t installed much else.

It took me ages to get it installed as it couldn’t cope with my EFI (I have multiple boot partitions). I had issues getting games running once I had it installed, but I can’t remember what specifically those issues were as I spent longer fighting with Pop (WiFi driver issues).
I had a bad time getting Bazzite working and ended up switching to CachyOS, which I have been happy with.

Space@mander.xyz•Scientists analyze 76 million radio telescope images, find Starlink satellite interference 'where no signals are supposed to be present'
12·10 months agoI think you are underestimating the added complexity and cost. Radio telescopes aren’t like optical ones, they are huge arrays of dishes covering a vast area, and a key aspect to them is that they are relatively cheap. Space telescopes cost billions, last less time, cost far more to run, and often can’t (reasonably) be repaired.
The unfortunate truth is that we will end up picking between furthering our knowledge and furthering private wealth, because even if we put some in space, it would be prohibitively expensive to match what we have on earth.

I’m guessing “fuck with”? Not sure though
You’d need a separate power amp to power the 4x12, so something like the SD PowerStage series, Harley Benton GPA-100, mooer baby bomb, or a flat response bass amp, and then you could use any modeller you like.
CachyOS has been very good for me for a similar purpose

AskBeehaw@beehaw.org•What should be done with the unemployable people?
26·11 months agoWork isn’t the only value to society - they can be a part of their community, do art, or anything else. Everyone wants to engage with the world to some extent, and thay is the value they add.
The question in my mind is how long can a universal income be put off as more gets automated? How many will fall through the cracks before something is done?
CachyOS
I’m moving at the moment. Linux Mint is a good stable Windows alternative, but I wanted to separate gaming from other things so I am dual booting. I have had luck with Pop_OS! before but recently had issues with a laptop WiFi adapter, had some issues getting Bazzite working, so ended up with CachyOS, which has been really slick and easy so far.
A nice thing with Linux is how easy it is to cycle through a few distros if you have your main files on a different drive or partition, since you don’t lose anything important when switching that way.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Aux doesn't belong on smartphones anymore.English
2·11 months agoI have two and they have had endless connection issues. Also, the DAC in splitters is terrible, so this requires a USB-C splitter followed by an external DAC. It’s pretty unwieldy.
Also, on my previous phone without a jack the USB-C port started having charging issues after a couple of years due to wear. I’d be less annoyed about it if they had multiple USB-C ports, but a single port device is a bad idea in general.

Selfhosted@lemmy.world•Is there any open source tv focused os/ui?English
13·11 months agoThere are a few things about Kodi that might help:
- There are themes thay completely change the UI, so it doesn’t have to be outdated. I use Arctic: Zephyr – Reloaded and it is much better, though I did change the noises to something else.
- The Jellyfin plugin works pretty seamlessly if you set up the UI correctly. I only use Kodi for Jellyfin and it acts as if it’s all local files, other than the occasional syncing notice.
However, I feel you on Netflix, YouTube, etc. - it is not ideal. I ended up either logging into a separate partition or moving to a Chromecast for those things. I’d love an all-in-one solution but I haven’t managed to find one that I’d be happy with.

Mechanical Keyboards@lemmy.ml•Looking for a linux compatible programmable keyboard
4·1 year agoIt’s less slick than on Windows but I believe you can use those programmable keys with Solaar, if you’re interested in keeping your current keyboard.
That sounds like a conspiracy theory. Insects are a more eco friendly source of protein than cattle, and cattle might become more expensive due to the effects global warming and the potential taxes that could be placed on emissions, but there are plenty of other protein sources and there isn’t some big plan.

The Verge@sh.itjust.works•AI could consume more power than Bitcoin by the end of 2025
4·1 year agoNo it won’t, or it already does. AI is a meaningless term used to sell bullshit, so can we please use better definitions? Machine learning models will? Generative ML? Stuff hosted by a large company? There’s no way they’re counting all the small ML models all around the world, and sometimes (sadly, rarely) “AI” can save energy vs the alternative. How has everyone collectively lost their ability to think when it comes to this shit?

Yeah, I probably gave Bazzite less of a chance because I had so many issues installing it. I believe I had to wipe my other Linux partition to get it installed in the end.
