  • your argument is based in idealist moralism, not actual material analysis. your moral condemnations are admirable but entirely useless and a typical example of liberal westoid smugness and edgy circlejerling.

a marxist-leninist approach to revolution is rooted in material conditions and class struggle, not cultural crusades or idealist moralism. while religion has historically served ruling-class interests, it also emerges from the real suffering and alienation of the working class. hostile, edgy anti-theism (“reddit atheism”) that treats religion as mere ignorance or superstition misunderstands this reality and ultimately undermines revolutionary efforts by alienating the masses.

marx’s critique of religion is often misused by superficial atheists. when he called religion “the opium of the people,” he was not simply condemning faith, but identifying it as a response to suffering in a world devoid of meaning and justice. religion, in this sense, is both a symptom of oppression and a coping mechanism for those experiencing it.

from a materialist standpoint, religion persists because it fulfills real social and emotional needs under capitalism. the task of revolutionaries is not to mock or suppress these beliefs, but to transform the conditions that give rise to them.

and if you would try to even once get out of your yankoid ignorance and actually look at the historical precedence of socialist projects, you would learn a lot:

In its early years, the ussr launched aggressive anti-religious campaigns, shuttering churches (and destroying century-old architectural monuments in the process), ridiculing faith, and persecuting religious leaders. these efforts, spearheaded by organizations like the League of the Militant Godless, were driven by ideological zeal rather than mass-line engagement. they confused state atheism with revolutionary strategy and alienated millions of religious workers and peasants whose faith was deeply embedded in their communities and daily lives.

rather than focusing drawing believers into the socialist project through improvements in their material conditions and political education, the early state attempted to impose atheism from above. this approach was idealist, disconnected from the real consciousness of the masses, and politically self-defeating.

they thus unwillingly played into the hands of the reaction, since religious believers, especially in rural areas, came to view the new socialist state as an enemy of tradition, community, and morality. reactionary forces capitalized on this resentment, painting themselves as defenders of the common people. lenin-dont-laugh

recognizing this, comrade Stalin eased anti-religious policies during the great patriotic war, in order to build unity, effectively admitting that earlier methods had been divisive and counter-productive.

leftists should understand that atheism, like any belief system, must be approached strategically. the goal is not to impose a worldview, but to unite the working class in the struggle against capitalism. religious people are not the enemy, capitalism is. mockery and cultural arrogance only serve to fracture potential alliances.

instead, we must engage religious workers respectfully, meet their material needs, and build class consciousness through shared struggle. religion will fade not through coercion, but as alienation and exploitation are overcome.

  • the modern german state is pretty much defined by opposition to the gdr:

    • our national holiday is “reunification day” with the day of the attempted counterrevolution in 1953 previously filling that role in the west

    • almost all members of the former gdr state apparatus were purged in the 90s, including people like teachers and university professors.

    • the entire east german military was purged and there were criminal cases initiated against people formerly serving in the border troops. no such things had ever been done by the frg government against nazi troops btw. also unlike former personnel of the nazi army, officers of the gdr military are not allowed to be addressed by rank.

    • gdr mass organizations like the “ernst thälmann pioneer organisation” have been declared “unconstitutional” while far-right parties like the afd are left unscathed despite creeping ever closer to actual political power

    • the gdr is constantly being demonized and equated with nazi germany. schoolchildren are made to participate in performative denouncements of “the two dictatorships on german soil”. but while remembrance of the hitlerite tyranny is oftentimes paired with platitudes like “at least he built the autobahn”, media about the gdr is filled with yeonmi-park -level horror stories about the stasi. in modern german history curriculum the role of communists resisting the hitlerite tyranny is consistently played down.

    • class consciousness is being combatted by the media propagating racism. first against vietnamese people in the 90s and now against people of middle-eastern descent. this constant racist propaganda sponsored by the bourgeoisie is the main reason for the rise of the fascist afd party, though you wouldnt hear that from west german political analysts. they instead claim that east germans simply have a pathological “democracy deficit” due to “growing up in a dictatorship”

so yeah its really fucking bleak. doomer

  • While there are some legitimate arguments being made relating to misogynistic societal perceptions of that word, the mods include women and enbies who disagree and specifically requested this name. I feel that this situation parallels the initial pushback that was experienced with disabled in which users voiced concerns that this name could be ableist, but the moderators of that community are themselves disabled and specifically requested that comm name, verbatim.

am i fuckin reading this correctly??? only because some of the people were women and/or enbies, their decisions are now supposed to be the pinnacle of wisdom and uncontestable?

i know that the mods are meaning no harm, i had nothing but positive experiences with them before this whole debacle started, and OP in particular has genuinely been really great at clearing up the current situation, thank you for that, BUT BEING PART OF A MINORITY GROUP DOESN’T ABSOLVE YOU OF BEING WRONG AND JUST REALLY INSENSITIVE IN THIS PARTICULAR SITUATION! all this is a little bit similar to certain trans people stating that they are okay with the t-slur being used on the internet, and while im sure nobody harbors this kind of sentiment in here, i hope this shows what harmful pitfalls this “im Part of a minority group, therefore im right”-thinking can bring.

so to reiterate from my removed thread:

    • The term “gossip” has a long history of being weaponized against women, particularly in ways that diminish their voices and portray them as trivial, unimportant, or malicious when engaging in communication or expressing themselves. This cultural baggage doesn’t disappear just because a few people choose to reclaim or adopt the term in a specific context. By using it, the forum risks perpetuating a stereotype that affects gender and sexual minorities who are already marginalized, especially when used as the name of a community meant to serve them.

    • some folks from marginalized groups, might want to take back words that have been thrown at them, but it’s a pretty complex thing to do. reclaiming those words means being really aware of how it affects others, especially in places that aim to be welcoming. just picking up a term because some people in the community are cool with it doesn’t really consider the real damage that word might still do to others in that same group. like, using the word “gossip” might give off the vibe that this place isn’t really serious about tackling the bigger issues of sexism that are still out there in society.

    • hexbear communities should be all about making sure everyone feels respected and supported, especially those who have often been overlooked. using a word like “gossip” might accidentally push away folks who think it’s disrespectful or plays into negative stereotypes about them. Even if some people who identify as women or genderqueer, might not see the term the same way, their views can really depend on their own experiences and privileges.

    • one of the key things to building a welcoming space is to watch the words we use, since some can hurt people, even if we don’t mean to. just because some folks in the group are cool with certain words doesn’t mean they’re okay for everyone. If we want our community to feel safe and inclusive, we need to think about how our words affect everyone and steer clear of terms that can be harmful.

tldr: it is great that racist terms like the_x_tank are being purged from the site, but it is absolutely not great that potentially sexist terms are being used as a substitute.
