Hey all, I’m @Influx, friend of @Veraticus from various tech/gaming circles. Like everyone, a reddit refugee, and thinking hard about how I want to engage in social media from here on. Interested in music (mostly electronic), games, AI, and the intersections thereof.
Like @xeger, I’m not totally convinced that Lemmy will get enough content to really bootstrap healthy communities, but also open to creative thoughts about how to generate that content.
I don’t quite follow how federation works on Lemmy - is the idea these would be communities just for us, the users registered on this instance? Or would we like to have folks from the wider fediverse wander in?
My immediate gut instinct is - queer gaming is a strong niche that would probably benefit from getting folks from all over?
gayrpg
?Whereas - for a politics community, or a community discussing nuanced gender stuff, I’d probably want that more closed-off, unless we want to be fighting off troll brigades? But idk how that would work out in practice, Lemmy’s culture might be different than what I’m used to.
