Problem for some toxic open source members is they spend way too much time to hate each others’ app/distro’s minor fault and neglect alternatives’ advantage/value, not improving problems in already fine codebase but just start flame war and hate others. First of all, I like rust+tui stack and thanks to sharing to community,but I hate to see open source dev wasting valuable time on reinventing wheel on something constantly change. YouTube’s api, webpage constantly change to prevent third party sw. While we have invidious which can be use as backend, why ppl want to waste their time and abandon project quick? Freetube can use invidious api as source for example. What we need make invidious more backend friendly (i always confused why invidious dev not focus on their api only) and able to have single source of truth on subscription, history across mobile, desktop frontend app

Your marketing is really confusing. If your target audience is really self hosted users, act like you mean it cuz the hardest part is integration, too many moving parts. You are too late for Mycroft party. If you set your mind, take a look for https://github.com/NeonGeckoCom/NeonCore and homeassistant. If you can integrate with their ecosystem well, your user base will be more than you advertised here for a year. Let’s hope one day Lemmy is as big as Reddit. Good luck

He did one big rewritten before because of poor gui speed. I won’t comment on of if he use ai or not or code quality, but you can probably search old posts about his rewritten. I do agree dev should keep his git history less susceptible especially in this ai slop age

I purchased a few stellaris dlc and they work fine. Not sure if you mean dlc.

Neonmodem looks really cool and support multiple backend. TUI is cool and definitely earns its place. Excellent for my old laptop.

But on the other hands, I wish we have a proper complicated non electron liked desktop gui. My browser probably has 1000+ tabs. So able to open multiple threads are must. But building this sophisticated desktop app is hard. I am really being spoiled by open source apps. And I am always thankful to devs’ hardwork.

Network can be tough if you are not technical. Have you tried usb? Or using rsync or syncthing in general.

GNU/Linux is an OS designed by hackers for hackers(at least in my age). The target users should be admin, not end users like grandma. That’s why Linux desktop is never mainstream despite our community put so much effort on the user experience (but the effort has not wasted)

Before you yell at me, on the other hand, android (shipped with Linux kernel) has a great success because it’s dummy proof design. Even a 2 years old can mess around tablets by his/her own. We can invent million theories, argue and hate each other all days. But there is only one fact. The fact is that mainstream users enjoy the fruit of open source is brought by Android from tablets. Unfortunately, tablets’ gui toolkit is dominated by big corps.

When do we start to put focus on gui toolkit for tablets? We did try, but far away than enough. When do we able to admit new generation use tablets way more than desktop? Seeing the open source communities keep heading the wrong direction make me sad.
