One thing I love about the old DnD books is how oddly specific they can be. There’s pages about how to draw correct summoning and binding circles for various beings.

6·2 days agoMake sense that a good automod would be needed. I wonder how prioritized that is for Lemmy and piefed. I assume a lot of the devs are mods as well.

10·2 days agoWhat could a forum such as Lemmy do to make moderating better / easier for both NSFW and queer content? Would there need to be special tools or processes? Or would it be cultural?

8·3 days agoWhile I see lots of suggestions for trash food (which I love while high) there’s something to be said about something wholesome and homey. It works best when prepared ahead of time. My favorite are soup with fancy bread, a hearty pasta, tater tot hot dish and pot pie. I think we’re doing a pot pie for tonight. Get it ready and then get high while heating up. Perfect

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Humans are part of the ecosystem.English
4·4 days agoAltered doesn’t have to mean destruction. A human touched ecosystem can be different but doesn’t have to be a monoculture. There are a huge number of human specific plants, most of which we call weeds now, that only exist around people that can provide food and medicine to us. Looking at how modern permaculture farming works there’s a huge amount of diversity within their food forests which are directly human touched while leaving more wild sections. These wild sections are more native specific and their value is acknowledged instead of called wasted space. Humans are part of an ecosystem so we alter it but don’t have to destroy it

Science Memes@mander.xyz•Humans are part of the ecosystem.English
4·4 days agoWhile I agree that people are fundamentally the same the cultural values can alter their behavior. A culture that says Human are separate and above nature who should submit to it’s will acts differently than one who thinks humans are the youngest sibling to plants and animals who have lots to teach us. So by understanding cultural values, mindsets and techniques we can alter how we interact with the rest of the world.

325·4 days agoExcept the fact we have lots of evidence that native population (which also includes pre-industrial European culture) built sustainable systems which includes altering the environment. Throughout North America there tons of evidence of the use of fire was used. The classic prairie environment of the Oak Savana is only possible through burns and supports a large buffalo population. There’s tons of evidence of strategic cultivation of trees and other plants within the Amazon rainforest that allow people to get food and medicine close by that to the untrained eye looks identical to the rest of the forest.
That being said some of those same people them destroy the same forest via slash and burn agriculture in order to earn a living for cash crops and more traditional agriculture. So profits is a main driver
I already seen lots of recommendations for the Food Lab which I love. My favorite and the one that made me love cooking is Salt Fat Acid Heat. It’s both specific recipes and general cooking advice

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Is ice heavier than water?English
20·8 days agoIf you measure the weight of a glass of water and then freeze that same glass the weight will not change. The volume will increase but the mass will be static which accounts for the decrease in density

Also we have the longest steak of voting for a Democrat in a presidential election. Every other state is just jealous. MN is the best
I tried this brand but didn’t love it. Might be the bottle but didn’t foam enough and was thin. If there’s other that are better I would love to know

To my fair for DnD does imply that all player characters are special and that’s why they can do what they do. Especially when the magical classes. All priests can say the words but only those blessed will manifest the clerical / druidic magics. They are the special ones but still have to learn to power up.
Also it’s not as binary in Dnd. There’s a reason not every NPC is high level regardless of age. Most settings have implied that at a certain point a spellcaster maxes out the spells they can do. All those casters who can do 1st level spells only some are implied to be still learning but others are just as good as they can be.
So there’s isn’t one class that is special but all of them
