Unfortunately, 15% is above the national average for congressional primaries. That’s all we need to change to change the Democratic Party. All the funding in the world won’t matter if we all take it upon ourselves to research the candidates on the ballot and show up at the polls.
For a point of reference, Mamdani broke the record for NYC Mayoral Democratic Primary turnout with just 30%, up from 21% last election. We just need to outnumber the retirees.
I’m referring specifically to the congressional primaries. That’s where we replace the centrist Democrats with progressives who will move the Overton Window back towards the left.

A lack of challengers is exceedingly rare. I was just discussing Fetterman’s election in another thread, where someone was saying he was better than Dr. Oz, but both options sucked. He also had three challengers in a primary that only saw 8.5% attendance.

The Overton Window shift in the US is mostly due to persistent low primary attendance.
Congressional primaries have seen <15% attendance for the last 40 years. Retirees never miss a vote, and have very different needs than the working class. They’re the ones who have been packing our ballots with centrists and conservatives.
We should be voting twice every two years, not once every four, for federal elections alone. Sign up for mailers if you forget. Research the candidates on the ballot, rather than relying on advertising to coerce you into doing your civic duty.
Maybe more than 8.5% of voters should’ve turned out for the primary.

They raised minimum wage before they did anything else. They also enacted equal pay laws and several insurance protections. Read it and come back with informed criticism. This uninformed “democrats bad” nonsense is not worthy of debate.
The last time Democrats had the same majority in congress that Republicans have now was the 111th Congress. It was considered the most productive Congress since the 89th, which was also a Democratic majority.
The slim majorities that Democrats have had since have been packed full of centrists due to the horrifically low congressional primary attendance (<15%) for the last few decades. We need to stop allowing retirees to fill our ballots with conservatives and centrists, and vote in the progressives that will actively bring about change.
For sure, but that’s a safety net. They can’t take out domestic loans against those accounts. They function on perpetual debt leveraged against their portfolios.
Portfolio, not bank account. They don’t pay taxes on unrealized gains.
