Fahrenheit was literally devised by a physicist, Daniel Gabriel Fahrenheit, a European, mind you.

It was based on physical properties, too. Originally 0 was the freezing point of a replicable water solution, and 96 was set at human body temperature (96 used as it made dividing a thermometer easier). It was later recalibrated to put boiling at 212, 180 degrees from freezing, but that’s the original basis.

There is no god-ordained rule that states that 0 has to be the freezing point of water, nor 100 the boiling point.

Fahrenheit also has an inherent advantage to Celsius in that for every 5 degrees C there are 9 degrees F. There is more inherent precision.

And there is the rub. Conservative legislators won’t allow it in most states, because it would mean more Dems in congress.

Same in California for much the same reason. There has long been a Republican proposal to split it into 5 states so there are more Republican senators.

Greed is bad, but its large losses in certain areas due to climate change-induced disasters that is pushing up prices far more than greed. You are the one that is stretching credulity more than a contortionist getting ready for their act.

And are you saying we should not have risk-based premiums? Sounds like you want the rest of us to subsidize living in a disaster prone area. I will gladly choose insurers that chops to drop clients in disaster prone areas so I can afford my insurance.

Some people can spend $50m a year. Just because you can spend it all doesn’t mean you are not rich. Also, there mere existence of richer people doesn’t make you not rich.

Turns out when you say you cannot charge more than x for a service that costs y to provide, and y>x, no one can sell the service.

With climate change, there is no option for “low cost” plan, government or no.

You can’t constantly have massive losses like these fires in a single area all paying out claims and expect to pay them off with low premiums.

I see zero evidence that it was some official operation.

There are other options. Heck, fire bombers usually are accompanied by their own sorter aircraft.

How exactly would a drone address the problem?

The US absolutely does have those planes. (That’s 1 example, here are others) But high winds are keeping most of them from operating (the winds are what is spreading the fires).

They are using helicopters, but those can’t carry as much.

I’m sure my insurance in the Midwest will go up to subsidize things, too. Never mind that we never have widespread disasters like this.
