I think in the long run, they will be developed for kids, kids will grow up with them and they will be their best friends. No, this is not the universe I wanted to be in, but this is the future we’re heading for.

There’s certainly some mental illness around, especially on this topic. However it’s also important to consider what if it isn’t? AI companions are projected to be a huge market, and I’ll be damned if a kid didn’t develop a strong emotional bond to a companion it grows up with.
I guess it’ll only be a matter of time, friend.
The entshitification of relationships?

Political Memes@lemmy.world•The regime silently removed parts of the US Constitution like the writ of habaes corpus from the official website
1·1 年前I’m curious about the sequence of events you think this would initiate. Perhaps the ICE raids would finally be brought before a judge, invoking the writ of habeas corpus. If it turns out that the information is no longer on the government website, the judge might declare it irrelevant? Even if the removal was malicious and intentional, it’s still just a stupid prank.
Getting people outraged about things like this simply distracts people from the actual corruption and self-dealing happening in this administration.

26·1 年前It appears someone made a mistake and it’s now remedied. However the speed with which it gets spun into full-blown constitutional crisis is what’s frustrating, when a much simpler explanation fits.
There are enough travesties actually happening with this administration, we don’t need to spin up fake ones.

5·1 年前I still contend that this sort of task is uniquely positioned to show off LLMs. The idea that they’ll turn into agents that can do real-world tasks remains a fantasy. Despite how impressive this is, they’re losing money and have no real path to profitability.
I’m curious. What would it take to change your mind? I’d like to check in with you in two years to see what you think then.
Devil’s advocate: if the problems were could be solved with relatively simple programming, why aren’t why they solved already?

Could you elaborate on why you think emotional attachment to an inanimate object is unhealthy? This seems as old as time.
