In many places in the US there are legal challenges to encrypting general police radio traffic specifically due to public oversite. Americans have rights of oversight over their public agencies that most Europeans do not have.

Yeah, no shit.
A presidents minions breaking into a hotel room vs a half century of child sex abuse coordinated by Americas strategic enemies among a cabal of the most rich and powerful men in the US with the currently sitting president in the middle of it.
What is wrong with these people?

This might be the dumbest thing I have read today. Alan Turing is a widely recognized name, but few people are aware that the vast majority of the people who worked for him in were women. That part didn’t even make it into the movie. Nothing like this is ever done by one person, and its on you if you can’t get your head far enough out of your own ass to see that.

It might amaze you to learn that Turing did not work by himself, but actually led an entire team of codebreakers and programmers in Bletchley Park, the VAST majority of whom were women (despite what that dumb movie portrayed).

Was it classified because cracking the Enigma machine was still a matter of national security by the 1950s or because the UK didn’t want to talk about the people that cracked it?

They are blaming AI for that, which is surprising since not one of those jobs was actually replaced with AI.

Its easy if you don’t give a shit about the welfare of the people you lock in there.

It’s neat that AI is already ruining the world in really tangible ways.

Ours is perfectly stable at highway speeds and is absolutely capable of greatly exceeding the speed limit if you are patient enough.

Imagine getting out smarted by fucking MTG.

Most people don’t find turning the lights off and on burdensome enough to justify a whole lot of effort to avoid.

It was mostly women, which was actually a bigger problem because despite a massive headstart, the British computer industry basically fired every early computer scientist they had the moment the boys came home and sent the ladies back to the kitchen.
Then they couldn’t navigate the conflict created by their class system: only gentleman received an education, but only working class men could work with machines, so who was supposed to work with computers?
In the end a big lead on computer development never really materialized into a real advantage for the UK because their culture just wasn’t ready for it.
This is literally what breaking down social barriers (you know, DEI) is supposed to address, so maybe we don’t waste the next opportunity.

They probably have a commercial photo with the tray partly pulled out showing just the first two and had to have packaging that reflected that.

That kid certainly didn’t miss him.

I pointed this out in his first term. He is the only president in my memory that didn’t walk into the office with a full team of their own advisors and staff members. He shows up with basically nobody but his employees and a bunch of random GOP back benchers because the dude has been in business for half a century without accumulating a single trusted business partner or even a couple of friends. Literally nobody likes this guy.
Same. I was like “this cannot possible be a hard drive and it cannot possible get plugged into that thing, that’s where the wifi card goes on a laptop.”
Right next to my ps/2 keyboard and mouse with serial adapter cause you never know.
Its a problem if you don’t know to do it because the it is not intuitive if you aren’t familiar with hardware jumpers as a concept since this was one of the last holdovers from that era and befouled many a hobbyist. You build it and it “just doesn’t work” and “learn that jumpers are a thing” is pretty far down the list of things that most people troubleshoot when their new build won’t post.
In other words this is just your canned response for when you get called out for posting stupid shit.
