Seems like something to do with the Operating system. Had a similar issue lately with fedora Linux where both of my laptops had I/O issues. Restarting and updating fixed the issue.

everytime I tell people my experience I get that feeling of being watched again. It’s scary thinking that could have ended very bad for me if I didn’t get that warning from the distressed hiker. I have heard stories about there being being creeps on the trail, but never encountered one before my experience.

I ended up in a similar situation, except I was hiking the Appalachian trail alone. I decided to stop at a creek and get some crawfish for my dinner and to boil water. While I was turning over rocks I heard some distant rustling and got this feeling I was being watched. I unclipped the button on my knife holster because that made me a little more comfortable. I heard from another hiker that this area wasn’t safe and that I should pass through and go past the shelter a few miles. He looked very tired and sounded nervous under his breath and didn’t take time to explain and he speed walked on.

Back to me catching crawfish, I ended up eating like 5 or 6 of them and ate the rest of the wild berries and mushrooms I collected from the morning. I heard the rustling but it sounded much closer. Close enough that I could tell it was something that weighed a good bit. I took that as my warning and got out of there.

I was a good two or three miles from the creek when I remembered what the guy said and how nervous he was. That feeling I was being watched never went away. I decided to dart into the woods and form a fishhook maneuver to see if I was being followed. It was something my friends native American grandfather said to do when hunting in a area with lots of bears or mountain lions to avoid leading them back to your camp. And sure enough it worked because their wasn’t an animal following me but a person was following me.

I slowly moved back to the trail and walked about 100 ft on the hard packed soil to not leave a footprint trail then I darted in the woods and ran for a good 20 or 30 minutes before hitting a road. At this point I decided to hike 5 miles to a motel and just sleep. No way I was sleeping in the woods with a maniac on the loose.

I created a live USB and ran smartctl and it didn’t show any issues. I went ahead and reinstalled fedora (the OS was to far gone to repair) and as for all my files they were backed up on my NAS.

Although files disappearing along with core systems files does point to a hardware issue of some kind, typically you wouldn’t expect a mainstream Linux distro to have a glaring issue like this. So wether it’s something stupid like a dirty contact or it’s a failing transistor there’s only one way to figure out what’s going on here and that’s to keep using it.

I’m using half mini PCI instead of sata.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise, Microsoft can track everything you do on there platform.

Maybe I could hook my bench power supply up to the wires to test it? Although it only goes up to 14.4 volts so if it takes 24vdc I have no way of testing. I could go to the local electronics store and ask for old batteries and get them on the cheap just to test.

My other ups which is an APC will work and pass power even with out a battery. And it’s not hot swappable. It will just beep.

This UPS doesn’t even do anything, it doesn’t even beep. The cables going to the battery don’t seem to be pushing any voltage according to my multimeter when I complete the circuit. And it doesn’t help the tripplite isn’t consumer friendly when it comes to self service.

A repair cafe?? Im not from the EU so I’m not familiar with the customs, but is it like a cafe with tools instead of food? Or is it like a community repair shop where people go to work on stuff?

Edit: I normally would recommend choosing to bike or get rid of a car if OP wasn’t about to go broke and cars make for amazing shelter as long as you can maintain them.

Learn to do things yourself. Let me give you a few answers

• Car oil change: $35 for both the oil and oil filter. Would be a little over $75 if I had a shop do it.
• compare prices when buying food, same with the amount of food in the container compared to the price.
• spend in cash, easier to follow a budget if you have physical money in your hand.
• buy things from the second hand market, my laptop that I use was $1100 MSRP, got it for $750. That’s a good deal
• don’t eat out at restaurants
• eliminate monthly services.
• fix broken things. I fixed my aunts AC window unit for about $10 with a used run capacitor from eBay. Would have costed a little over $300 for a new one.

There are lots of things I could talk about, and some of these things involve learning a bit, and some time. As someone who was without a job for the entirety of COVID, it forces you to be thrifty.

That is some pure innocence right there.
