That reduced diameter acts as a spring to absorb some of the torque being transmitted from the impact driver to the fastener.
The straight bit will not flex or elastically deform, but will fail in torsion without warning. These bits are not “impact rated”, but are meant to be used with hand tools.

Automobiles: 1 in Indiana, 3 or 4 in Ohio, 1 in Alabama. HondaJet in NC. ATVs in NC and SC.


Thank you for this. I live in Ohio and did not know this law existed. I have not heard it brought up in any discussion or news coverage (although I admit my decision was made early and have not spent much time listening to the ‘debates’).
