My grandmother was British, and she’d cook the most amazing roast potatoes I’ve ever had. Its just a shame she made them by sacrificing the roast beef…

Programmer Humor@programming.dev•What do you call your production branch?
3·10 个月前Our development branch is “working”, then we have specific dated snapshots where we run our datasets through our programs.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•What form of entertainment, movie, music, tv, video game etc that you were excited about only after it came out did you realize it was trash?
61·10 个月前Mass Effect Andromeda. I loved the original trilogy, even the third one, and I was hopeful that they’d live up to what they were promising. Instead, we got a garbage game that completely tossed the idea of exploring a new galaxy. I tried to play it 3 different times, just to give it a chance, and I couldn’t go through with it.

Games@lemmy.world•What game sequel ruined a beloved franchise or character for you?English
7·10 个月前I’d say part of the problem for Andromeda was that everyone else got there first in terms of colonization; the player isn’t exploring a new location, untouched by colonists, they’re going to an established settlement and exploring around that instead.
One of my cats periodically likes to stick his head through the window blinds at 2 in the morning to look outside. When he does that he makes these terrible choking noises, which causes me, if I’m awake to hear it, to run out and check on him. At that point, he’ll pull his head out and look at me like I’m the idiot for being worried about him…

News@lemmy.world•Anthropic destroyed millions of print books to build its AI models
7·1 年前Oh, it’s a great book. Or at least, I liked it a lot. The library mulching was opposed by most of the characters.

News@lemmy.world•Anthropic destroyed millions of print books to build its AI models
33·1 年前This reminds me of the book Rainbows End, by Vernor Vinge. In it, a company uses a mulcher to grind down all the books and shelves in a library, then uses scans of the scraps to reassemble the books in digital form for an AR version of the library.

6·1 年前Current hourly forecast says we’re gonna get thunderstorms around 5 here, but the rain will start at 3.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Any foods you prefer or can't stand depending on whether they are raw, fresh, pickled, cooked etc?
6·1 年前Raw spinach is great, I can just eat handfuls of that all day. Cooked spinach is gross, both in flavor and texture.

News@lemmy.world•Zero ships from China are bound for California’s top ports. Officials haven’t seen that since the pandemic
221·1 年前I thought trains were the most efficient way to ship goods, though I’ll concede that trains are notoriously bad at crossing oceans.

politics @lemmy.world•Trump defends the high price tag for his military parade: 'Peanuts compared to the value'
132·1 年前I agree on the whole anthem/pledge thing, but flyovers do have at least some value in that they give pilots flight hours. Those planes would have to be in the air anyway for training, so they might as well use them for advertising via flyovers.
Calibre Companion, on android. For years it was the best way to sync books between my calibre install on my computer and my phone, even after the developer abandoned it. Then a while back, the dev released a single update that broke the app’s integration with reader apps, then disappeared again. I rolled that back extremely quickly, by grabbing an older version from my old phone.
Sluggy Freelance is a classic; it’s one of the oldest, longest running ones out there.
Incorrect. DC, while not having senators or representatives, still has 3 electoral votes for president, due to the 23rd amendment.
I’m similar, but it’s internal drives are planets, while external drives are moons.

Cheetara was paired with Tygra in both the comics and the reboot of the show.
