SNES and PSX era RPGs. It’s hard for me to sit in the same spot on the couch for turn based games with repetitive gameplay, but it feels like less of a chore when it’s just something I’m doing to pass time while lounging in bed. I’m playing through FFI pixel remaster now and really couldn’t imagine myself playing it on a TV.

Kudos for recognizing that it’s just not a possibility for you. I think the false belief that we could “just have a few” has been harmful and defeating to a lot of folks like us.

Not bad. Struggling with some PTSD flashbacks this week that I thought I had handled, so I’m really looking forward to therapy tomorrow. I know it will help. Otherwise everything is going great and I’m feeling very lucky lately. I hope everyone else is having a nice time too.

Gotta be Cyberpunk Edgerunners for me. Nothing has captivated me and made me love the characters as much as that show did.

I’ll probably still be using my Steam Deck in 2035 lol. It’s just so perfect for the types of games I play - mostly older stuff and modern pixel art / 2D games. I just beat Spiritfarer on it after beating Graveyard Keeper, and I’m nearly to the “end” of Stardew. I’ve played through FFVIII, FFIX, and FFX on it. My gaming time has quadrupled now that I can play all my games in bed or on the toilet or at the park. Just an amazing little machine.

Not a full hosting solution, but I use PerfectViewer on Android and it’s wonderful. Connects right into my server and displays all of my books and Manga on a shelf layout. It only syncs to my server locally because I don’t have a VPN to my home configured, but it does allow downloading which is handy when I’m traveling. I’m not sure if it has every feature you’re looking for but it might be worth checking out.

There’s already some great advice here, so I’ll just tag on an extra helpful tidbit - I think it’s worth reflecting on why alcohol was your body and/or mind’s response to a stressor. What is it about alcohol that drives that, specifically? What relief or effect are you looking for, at the most basic level?

I’ve heard a different answer from everyone I’ve asked, but in my case my thoughts doom spiral uncontrollably and I get tightness in my chest, so I just want to shut up my brain and relax my body. And hey, alcohol does both of those easily so it was a wonder drug - no wonder I craved it! It was a wonderful and terrible medicine.

Once you know what effect you’re actually looking for, you can find an alternative. In my case I was prescribed a fast-acting anxiety med that has been a lifesaver. I also use grounding techniques, sugar, cuddling my dog, ASMR - anything that attacks the symptoms I described.

This sounds stupid, but get a milkshake too. Sugar tends to help cravings because alcohol is also a type of sugar, or so I’ve heard. Milkshakes have kept me sober through some shit when bubbly drinks just didn’t cut it. Wishing you the best.

Looks matter less and less as you age. It’s far more important to have similar interests, morals, and lifestyle as your romantic partner. I know that’s not much consolation in the here-and-now, but rest assured that you will absolutely find a partner someday if that’s your goal.

My ex always refused to wear a seat belt in Ubers because it “helps prevent being abducted by sex traffickers”. He was a 6"3" 450lb black man. I don’t think the seat belt would have made much of a difference.

Apparently it was some nonsense he heard on TikTok. I wouldn’t be surprised if this was the same.

This is peak laziness, but I installed a tablet mount on my bed’s headboard so when I lay down I can just have the deck screen in front of my face. I use an 8bitdo controller so I don’t have to hold my hands in the air.

I was originally going to get one of those gaming glasses that are advertised for the deck, but this accomplishes the same goal of comfortably gaming while laying down.

Folks can feel as miserable as they want, but at work it’s a bare minimum expectation to pretend to be polite. Hell I was homeless when I made minimum wage but you can bet I still put on a big smile and was polite to every single customer who walked in the door because the alternative was being fired. It’s really not a difficult concept.

I was homeless in Phoenix in 2008 and it was beyond brutal. The heat was so intense that the soles of my shoes partially melted one day. I used to break into apartment complex pools just to cool down. And then monsoon season is a whole other beast.

I can only speculate, but maybe because TikTok and other social media algorithms were one of the main ways that the election was influenced by bad actors.

I’m quite sure they were referring to the many people who sat out the election due to concerns over genocide, which - fun fact - we’re getting anyway, but now with bonus fascism.
