One of my buddies is a car guy and he recently moved to a denser city and would bike to work pretty often. Driving is supposed to be a pleasure for car guys and most of them won’t scratch that itch on a stroad or clogged highway.

Some kind of check/balance failed when returning those confiscated firearms. Who is this “lawful owner” who petitioned to get them back? The shooter had an expired license and the way it written implies it was someone else who claimed ownership of the guns. Were they returned without any conditions proving the at risk youth no longer had access to these firearms?

I’d also like to add working together helped us succeed. Some humans would hunt while others tended fires, weaved baskets, prepared food and other tasks. Splitting that labor and skill across the group let the whole group benefit from it.

It does depend on the district and general vibe of the school. A big city school may have a different reaction than a rural one. Mine had a mix of city kids and country kids as the school was on the edge of the city. Our school also offered an outdoor education program that included things like fire starting and canoe tripping so students enrolled in that would have a valid excuse to have a knife on them. The student’s history of getting into trouble and reaction to getting caught is also a likely factor.

We’ve killed off vast amounts of natural predators. Hunting is regulated and often an important part of population control for the hunted animal. It also isn’t just about harvesting the meat, for many it is a deeply rooted cultural tradition.

The money being spent on the ban could be used much more effectively to reduce crime by investing it elsewhere such as mental health services. Many local police forces have refused to participate (its optional for them) citing their resources are better spent elsewhere which will push the costs onto the RCMP.

The closest i came to getting caught is in biology i etched some notches into a toothpick to work an experiment easier. Another student asked how i altered the toothpick, i offered him my knife and he said something along the lines of “just notch mine and i won’t tell anyone what I saw”.

Yes these days it may have been different. We barely had camera coverage. For one of my birthdays a friend gifted me an 8" hunting knife in the stairwell at school. I thanked him but did ask to maybe at least wait til the end of the day or a weekend next time cause that knife is harder to justify carrying than a folding blade.

I carried a pocket knife almost everyday in high school and never once had a problem. If you aren’t waving it around, threatening people, or overall being an idiot most people never even notice.

It might actually be the oposite. An ancient human trying to dig a hole with their hands got bored or frustrated by the task and started using a stick to make it easier. Whereas something like a dog will keep focused on digging that hole until its exhausted or got what it was after.
