Yeah I liked this episode and the previous… the motifs are great. Just the writing… its like dialed down to a 6. I feel like a lot of current Trek could really hit a lot harder with some minimally invasive script editing. Its like almost there just needs a little polish.

Every character who “died” isn’t on the NCC-1701 by the time Kirk is in command in TOS episode 2. Noonien-Singh is still such a rivaled name 70 years later that Data has to be created on some remote outpost. Not to say La’an is the reason for that, but it almost certainly will be a season arc.

That said, uhhhh did the pacing of each scene feel… off? Like the whole edit seemed slightly odd, hanging too long creating awkward moments, ESPECIALLY with every away team scene, and the Sol reveal felt flat. It’s so strange to see editing be an issue in any Trek series but it definitely was a clunky handling of an otherwise really great sci-fi episode.
It’s beyond me that any modern democracy would even allow someone be PM/President for 16 years in the first place, and then allow them to run again. For all that’s fucked with America rn, that one they’ve done right (for now).

Going off the reflections off the metal bits above them alone they almost certainly have house lights on. So probably not a hot set. They probably were doing a quick blocking check/rehearsal with talent so they snapped a quick picture with the sticks. Only a guess though, Im mostly on the doc side these days.
If things are looking too dark, check if your TV supports some form of HDR. Shows like this will do a proper job with color and part of HDR is streaming a parallel file to the video to take over your TV settings and auto adjust l to optimize how they want you to see the final product.
