  • I have found a couple times an LLM being good for searches. My example is scooters in the US, because of commute I’d like to find an electric scooter, the kind like a Vespa. But you do a search, you find all sorts about the standing scooters, look for electric motorcycles and they start getting to car level prices or aren’t street legal, it gets to be a mess. Chat GPT turned that search into a relatively quick one that I could find a local place that I’m going to check out when there’s not ice on the ground. But the important part was making it require links. As a tool, it can have its uses.

So all of that said… Google and other searches doing AI did fuck all and nothing to help on this, and I agree 100% I do not want AI on the search for DDG

  • Ehhhhhh… I don’t have faith in it. The manufacturing sector has been in the process of getting worse back when I tried to get into it in 08, and finally gave up on actually finding work in the industry and moved to healthcare. I know people who’ve quit welding jobs because they hit the ceiling on pay and it’s still not making living wages here in the midwest.

Yet that’s an industry that has consistently anti-union my entire life. They just buy into the foreigners taking their jobs. I fear the programming sector will drink the same koolaid, just Indians instead of Mexicans.

  • And if you are american: fucking fix your government

I live in a red state where our last two Attorney Generals used the position as a ladder to go to the senate. The first one on the whole Jan 6 attack ran like a coward after fist pumping to the crowd of rioters. The state loved it so much they elected his clone.

Some states are just choke holded by a cult. This isn’t a top down thing, no matter how much the President thinks he is. No, down to the grass roots we are fucked to a level that I don’t see how we come back from.

The worst part, the state I’m in now is an improvement from the last one I escaped.

  • Another thing that gets me is how many people will say voting doesn’t matter when they maybe only vote on presidential elections.

Voting is not a 4 year thing, it’s an absolute grind and locally can affect more of your day to day life, as well as keep building its way. higher up. I live in a state that so many people showed up and voted for bills that went against the state legislature, but they actually voted less for the people… now of course the state is overthrowing the things voted in.

So yes, SO VERY MUCH vote and be active in politics.

  • You ask that question, in a lot of rural areas the small walmart in town is run down and doesn’t get as much stock. It reduces slowly over time until shopping at that walmart is a waste of time and people go to the next one. So Walmart closes down the “Underperforming” walmart forcing people to go to the bigger one few towns over, centralizing and cutting the amount of staff/delivery locations walmart has to deal with, making them more money.
