Showerthoughts@lemmy.world•For a group that claims to love public safety, a lot of users there seem borderline disappointed when a loose pitbull doesn't attack someone, because it ruins their narrative.
411·5 days agoAh, the classic ‘insult them when you don’t have a real argument’ strategy. Truly a masterclass in public safety advocacy.

27·5 days agoThe numbers might not lie, but neither does the reaction. If someone is genuinely disappointed that a tragedy didn’t happen, their priority isn’t safety it’s validation.

Unpopular Opinion@lemmy.world•Show line dog breeding has devolved into a form of normalized animal abuse, and the AKC/kennel clubs are to blame.English
21·5 days agoI’d argue that the '99% of terrible breeders figure mostly applies to profit driven puppy mills and backyard ‘fad’ breeders. True preservation breeders who meticulously health test are out there, but they are constantly fighting against kennel club standards that reward extreme, unhealthy looks.
Tie Titles to Health: A dog shouldn’t be allowed to become a ‘champion’ unless it passes mandatory health, work and genetic screenings.

15·6 days agoIt’s a classic case of bad actors ruining a great convenience for regular consumers. Physical gift cards were the perfect cash to digital bridge for privacy conscious users and people without traditional bank accounts. Unfortunately, the scale of refund fraud and elder scams involving these cards has gotten so massive that tech companies are realizing the retail footprint just isn’t worth the liability anymore.

No Stupid Questions@lemmy.world•Do people who were blind from birth see anything in their dreams, or is it just audio and textures?
12·8 days agoNo, people born completely blind do not see visual imagery in their dreams, but their dreams are far from empty.

If you’ve spent any time in those specific forums, you’d know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s a classic case of people preferring a tragedy that fits their narrative over a peaceful outcome that doesn’t."
