I’m sure they’d like to, but how are you proposing they’re going to achieve that? Do you believe that Threads federating will somehow cause a mass exodus from other instances to Threads? Do you completely misunderstand how this all works and think that Meta will be able to manipulate the feeds on other instances or force them to carry Meta advertising or something?
The only downside I see is potentially an Eternal September scenario, and that’s going to happen if and when the fediverse becomes mainstream, regardless of how that happens.
