    Breonna Taylor

This case is a grand example of why body cams should be absolutely required for all police interactions with the public, and the footage should in turn be public. At least to the extent that is realistic - obviously things like undercover work can’t have public body cam footage.

The biggest question over that shooting was whether or not police announced themselves - police say they did, her boyfriend said they didn’t, other witnesses are kind of all over the place. But it’s kind of a central point - if they announced themselves and his response was to grab a gun and be ready to shoot them when they enter, that’s an **entirely **different beast than if they just busted in without a word and he started shooting because he genuinely thought it was a home invasion.
