As for women in the workforce, having twice the income earners should double the household income.
No, because it also doubles the labor supply which in turn depresses wages. Not to the point where it isn’t a net gain at the household level, but it’s not remotely double when it happens en masse (as it did when 2 earner households became the norm rather than the exception).
