I switched everything to a private nextcloud instance for better privacy and it’s also platform agnostic. Of course you can’t backup your phone to it but everything else works perfectly.
iCloud deleted 10 years of my photos all gone. I don’t trust them anymore.
This is actually an important point. No matter what cloud service someone picks, be sure you have a local copy of the data somewhere.
I would be so livid to lose 10 years of photos. That has got to be devastating.
Since many here probably use iCloud, I highly recommend for photos that people configure a Mac to keep a copy of all photos locally. (Settings->iCloud->“Download Originals to this Mac”.
