Lest you allow your life to be controlled by the whims of whoever decides to vote. Average voting age must come down!
Federal elections are not the most important
Municipal elections affect your immediate vicinity (your electoral district) and there ARE good people trying to run. Multiple municipalities on the same page = stronger political power.
Provincial elections are the root of many problems you may assume are the responsibility of the federal government. This includes a ton of control over healthcare, housing, tax distribution.
Federal elections should be self explanatory, obviously vote in them. We are not locked in a quasi two-party system! if you believe this you are inadvertently sealing your own depressing fate.
Visit the voting calendar to see upcoming elections and dates. If your 76 year old grandma can do it, you can do it!
VOTE FOR WHOEVER YOU WANT TO. IF YOU DO DO NOT VOTE IN YOUR ELECTIONS, I BELIEVE YOU ARE A COWARDLY AND SHAMEFUL CANADIAN AND A RECKLESS CITIZEN
Addendum:
Accessibility is not an excuse for not voting.
Living abroad is not an excuse for not voting.
Not caring or knowing who to choose or being confused is not an excuse for not voting.
Having work is not an excuse for not voting.
Going to prison is not an excuse for not voting.
Lacking standard ID or wanting to cover your face is not an excuse for not voting.
If you are on Lemmy right now and you are a Canadian citizen, you have no excuse.
Being under the age of 18 is a valid reason to not vote, but consider educating yourself now so you can better shape the future for yourself and your peers. Think of how awesome it would be to live in a country that you helped shape, and that you’re proud of!
If you have the need, rather than the website, you can also check how accessible any polling station is by calling 1-800-463-6868 or 1-800-361-8935 (TTY).
Provincial are probably the most important, by far. Especially given that cities are creatures of the province (only in Ontario?), so the province can override whatever the hell they want in municipal gov’ts.
I do personally agree that provincial elections hold particular importance for hard-hitting change.
This should probably go in !Canada and get pinnes there.
Yeah maybe. I posted on main because this is where every Canadian (and those who simply prefer the lemmy.ca instance) come to by default.
Lemmy brings in people with a reason for being here, and many which may be political.
Admins are free to remove it themselves or ask me to delete at their discretion, of course!!
