Based on the world’s collective experiences during covid, I’m thoroughly convinced 4.15 billion of those people are actually wondering how they as individuals can work to make things worse.

Here’s a really good video by Barry’s Economics on the topic:

One of the most powerful beliefs in modern politics isn’t a policy. It’s the belief that nothing can change.

You hear it everywhere and I feel it too. Most of us do.

But the strange thing is that when researchers study how change actually happens, they keep finding the opposite. Social change rarely arrives because everybody suddenly agrees. It often begins with surprisingly small groups of people connected in the right ways, reaching a tipping point that makes what seemed impossible suddenly feel inevitable.

This is why we evolved to have social hierarchies. It allows social animals such as ourselves to organize and divide labor to achieve things that would otherwise be impossible for individuals. When people feel like their individual contributions towards a particular cause don’t amount to anything then that’s a good sign that the cause is lacking structure and leadership that would be necessary to mobilize people.

I, as a person with a recalcitrantly strong back and hatred of reading political treatrices am thankful that there is a worldly upper class to tell me what is good for me.

That’s not kerosene, we’re just heating up the chafing dishes, Massa.

Unfortunately modern, especially Western societies are carefully designed to ensure the lowest possible chances of people working together.

40 years of neoliberalism sacrificed community to the altar of individualism. Everyone was brainwashed to think they don’t live in a society and only themselves matter.
