I struggled a lot with Kayra’s reaction face in the last panel - trying to communicate shock without stretching into anger or fear. Here are a couple of the options I tried out (plus a silly one).

    Quick question from a non native English speaker: shouldn’t the the text “I didn’t even know what I am until a few weeks ago” be “I didn’t even knew what I was until a few weeks ago”? I sound really weird to me as it is. I may be missing something but it feels like the event is in the past with “until a few weeks ago”. Again, not a native speaker so I’m only trying to understand the language better. Thanks!

      “I didn’t even know” is correct, OR “I knew” would be correct grammatically as well (thought it would be a different meaning). “I didn’t even knew” would not be correct. When forming a construct with auxiliary verbs like this, only the first verb should become past tense. In this case, that’s “do” becoming “did”.

      She learned what she was a few weeks ago, but she still is what she is. “What I was” may also be valid grammatically, but “what I am” is also valid, and feels more correct because her identity is an ongoing struggle.

    I believe the term you were looking for is “startled”. The iris dilated, and mouth ajar sell the reaction.
