Amazon looking to squeeze the last dollars from the fan base before abandoning the IP forever.

They can join the shriveled remnants of Tolkiens fans over there.

They’ve always wanted to make one, it just seems that they are having trouble finding a creator who is willing to make slop for a broad audience instead of a show directed at sci-fi fans.

If you want to be charitable it sounds like they wanted to make a show for people who hadn’t seen a combined 15+ seasons of TV.

Honestly, Stargate has had so many seasons, rises in tension and capability of villains and heroes, that the only way forward I can really see is a full reboot.

The original plan was to be a middle ground between continuation and reboot, involving Daniel getting wisked away to a parallel universe in which Earth never found the stargate. He would help them start up the stargate program and everything using his past knowledge. That would have kept new viewers just as interested as a full reboot while retaining continuity with the rest of the franchise, but it just wasn’t low-brow enough for Amazon.

Personally I think any new sci-fi should follow a more hard sci-fi path like The Expanse. Even though they dropped the “hard” part pretty quick.

I’m so sick of alternate universes, time travel as a gimmick and not the focus, and basically MAGIC BUT IN SPACE.

There is a lot they can do tbh.
You can go forward in time past the time of sg1 and atlantis.
Or, you go back in time to the time of the ancients, when they were battling the replicators or wraith.
Or hell, maybe work on what universe had set up, as it was a stand alone show

Honestly if I was the showrunner (my DMs are open!) I’d keep the gates but drop everything else at this point.

Instead of US-owned have the gate UN or secret society run.

Drop the Goa’uld or “fake gods” angle. It’s been done. Let’s get some new mysteries and exploration in. Even having villains not always being “people” would be great. Some of my favourite episodes were with the environmental conflicts of gate travel and space phenomenon.
