In a recent lawsuit against Sony, the firm argued that “reasonable consumers would not be misled” into believing they own digital games that they “purchased” on the PlayStation Store. Folks on the Consumer Rights Wiki have now compiled a humongous list of specific instances in which Sony currently states that users do, in fact, own their digital PS4 and/or PS5 games. And so we come back around to the Consumer Rights Wiki and its list of times that Sony has explicitly used ownership language on its website and on its digital storefront. The Consumer Rights Wiki was of course founded by consumer rights advocate and YouTuber Louis Rossmann, but much of the work was done by the community that has sprung up around the site as people rebel against the continuous erosion of their consumer rights, particularly by technology companies that argue against their own responsibility. 🖊️️🤖

Metal Gear Breakup: Hideo Kojima’s new game is still years away, but fans are eagerly awaiting the action-espionage blockbuster the Japanese designer is working on. While the designer announced the new partnership with Xbox, PlayStation confirmed the “difficult decision” to end its partnership with Kojima Productions. The executives were apparently unimpressed with the market performance of Kojima’s previous games, Death Stranding and Death Stranding 2: On the Beach. The titles did not meet Sony’s internal revenue expectations, the sources said, and were later ported to other platforms by Kojima Productions. After Kojima’s announcement, Xbox said that the team was “honored” to partner with the legendary studio behind Metal Gear and Death Stranding. 🖊️️🤖

Luanti’s Android app is currently not available on the Google Play Store due to a baseless DMCA notice filed on behalf of Microsoft by Tracer.AI, alleging that Luanti infringes Minecraft’s copyright. What is the DMCA notice? It does not provide any information aside from this and does not outline which assets Luanti allegedly uses. Except for Minetest Game and Development Test, all these games, mods, and texture packs are third-party, just like most apps on Google Play. While we hope Google reinstates the Luanti app in a timely manner, we would like to mention that the Luanti Android app is also available on F-Droid, an app store for Android whose official repository contains only verified free software. 🖊️️🤖
