I used to do a little bit of political work and I think it’s kind of understated just how much stuff happens because reactionary forces (Ukraine, Israel, etc.) just happen to reach out and the people on the other side are just kind of naively assuming best intent and going along with it.

The big example I’ve dealt with would be regional Zionist orgs who reach out to local governments for investment in Israeli government bonds - most local governments just kind of go along with it because they’re being asked to do something mostly value-neutral by one party and no one is actively opposing it on the other.

This is why it’s important to be active in local government, run for office if you can, and educate your representatives.
