I would say there is no real competiton. From a results based perspective ML floors French theorists, Trotskyists, Western Marxists etc
Where I would say ML has actual competiton in terms of successful anti-imperialism is in west asia where revolutionary islam (or pick a better term here) has been more successful. We could retrospectively say that they are successful because of anti-imperialist elements also found in ML but we have to admit the banner these successful fighters hold ain’t explicitly communist.
People are skittish about political Islam but this is to ignore the practical dynamics you’re pointing out, the existence of red Shiism a la Ali Shariati, the concept of al mushtarak or the commons in Islam, and even the way Marx and Engels saw religion as a factor in national identity and national liberation (Losurdo discusses Marx and Engels on this topic in an early chapter of Class Struggle).
