i already knew that cops are bastards but i have to work with cops ocasionally because i am a first responder and so fucking many of them are dumb and absolutely terrible to work with even as a white not visibly trans emt.
i have had cops on scene for DV situations and had the cops flag entire crowds of people including ems, fire, police and civilians with their service weapons.
or be transporting someone being IVC’d where i am legally obligated to have the cop ride along with me and they werent even looking in the general direction of the pt who was supposedly dangerous enough i had to have police on board.

Thank you for the work you do. EMTs help people who are having their worst, or even just very bad days every day. That’s a stark contrast to police who exist as the ‘legitimate’ use of state force to protect capital.

I read an article once that looked at the role of defense attorneys and their role in the legal system. The author argued that their function isn’t to get guilty people off the hook, it’s to ensure the cops and prosecutors are doing their job properly. What a system! All the accused goes through and no one checks if the cops are doing a good job until the trial! And even then, if the defence attorney is an overworked public defender, they aren’t going to be able to give each case too much thought.
Your question is likely rhetorical and meant as venting but cops are challenging to work with because they don’t have to be good at their jobs.
it was a bit rhetorical but honestly it was a genuine question two because i struggle to comprehend people who are so bad at the job they actively cause harm to a group that isnt one of the minorities the police force are intended to oppress.
honestly i dont feel like i am doing much to make anyones day better most days no matter how i try at least at the place i currently work.
