herbivoresomnivores are brutal.It’s not like that. If you piss the off, they’ll rip your legs open while running past you. They don’t care if they kill, they just want you to be not a theat anymore. They might eat you later if they find your body again, but they don’t plan on doing it.
Hogs aren’t herbivores. They’re omnivores
I’m not surprised. I thankfully havent dealt with feral hogs but I know allegedly domesticated hogs will try to eat you if they get the chance.
Domesticated hogs are much more likely to eat you than feral ones and not only because they get the chance more often. If a feral hog kills you, it’s not thinking about food, but just wants you to be not there anymore. A domesticated pig on the other hand might just start to eat you because you are there.
Yeah, they can easily weigh more than a lion, and they travel in groups.
My step dad shot one in the face with a 9mm from about 6ft away. The bullet went in the skin, traveled around the outside of the skull under the skin, and out the back.
It just stunned the hog long enough for him to grab his rifle.
I knew a guy who emptied a whole drum of .38 special into a hog that was charging him - though he probably missed half of the shots. Where I live, almost every hunter has stories like that. One told me he once shot a three-legged old boar and found a shotgun slug and several bullets in it.
On the other hand, some people still hunt feral hogs with dogs and spears around here and it’s more likely that a dog gets accidentaly shot than killed by a boar. I heard of a guy who jumped a hog with a knife to save his dog. I’ve only ever heard of one guy who got actually hurt by a pig. They also tend to get used to people easily if they’re not hunted. So the danger is a bit exaggerated.

I wouldn’t want to get close enough to either of those animals for proper identification if I spotted them in the wild, either. Especially if they had their kids with them.

I know people who absolutely can’t get enough of those tick tock style videos where someone goes around crowded places asking people general knowledge questions and posting all the people who don’t know the answer.
It’s made me realize that even IF the average person is smart, there are tons and tons of people who don’t know anything, and some of them are proud of the fact they don’t know anything.
I remember being shown one guy who was attending some 4th of July thing, decked out in American flag stuff, looking like a republican’s idea of “patriotism on a stick” and he couldn’t come up with the opening words of the star spangled banner, and said he “doesn’t need to know that queer shit” because he “loves America”
Plenty of people can’t do more than addition and subtraction.
Tons of people have 4th grade or lower reading levels.
I fully believe someone saw a boar and called 911 to report a lion on the loose.
I once had the sheriff and animal control called to my house because someone passing by saw a bear, and there haven’t been any bear sightings in my area for many decades. It was my large dog. I told them to have fun looking around for it, and if they find one to let me know, trying (poorly) to hide my amusement.
So pigs mis-identified other pigs… this is a weird timeline.
