I read an article months ago that they had already achieved this in China.
As a diabetic myself, I say “OK good”, but living in this dystopian hellscape, do I think I will live long enough to benefit from this? Probably not.
That was for type 2, this is for type 1. Which is a lot of hopeful news.
The posted article does address Peking University’s achievement, and the same treatment working in the US.
It’s a bit weird how it’s ‘a world first’ in the US though.
techniques involving immunosuppression are not breakthroughs. Immunosuppression alone is enough to reverse type 1 diabetes, it’s an auto-immune disease.
But obliterating the immune system has more risks consequences than insulin treatment, so it’s never done in practice…
