I agree that flock cameras help in reducing crime… Caused by the flock cameras.
In case you prefer written content as I do:
[Chief] Campurciani said there are 10 other cases under investigation.
“I don’t think we are done yet, quite frankly,” he said.
“So, we’re looking at other ones that could turn out to be nothing, but there are certain ones that we’re taking a secondary look at, a deep look at,” he added.
Campurciani noted that the case came after another incident involving a Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department officer who was charged with misusing data from license plate reader cameras.
“This is frustrating and aggravating at the same time,” Campurciani said, according to WSOC-TV.
“Look at this; there is another cop abusing the system. That’s what bothers me the most. The people who use this stuff for personal use, like she did, can’t think past their nose,” he said.
Nice to see the department taking this seriously. All departments should clearly be doing regular audits of system access. When I worked small town 911, they were performed regularly and all new hires had it drilled into them how serious an offense misuse if data access was. There’s no reason that shouldn’t be the norm.
Even better would be to have an independent organization in charge of these audits throughout the country.
Man, even when the perpetrator is a straight female cop, the stalking target still ends up being a woman.
