I have the weekend to myself, which is rare in my books. I could duck my Deck to my 4k TV and play it with an Xbox controller.
Any game suggestions that might actually run at 4k on deck? Ideally like 30 FPS.
Some that come to mind:
- Half Life 1/2
- L4D 1/2
- Portal (1 for sure, 2 maybe?)
- The Stanley Parable
- Ultrakill
- Super Hexagon (depending on your TV’s latency…)
- Mirrors Edge (maybe)
- Doom (maybe)
- Almost any 2D game

From personal experience, I can recommend The Stanley Parable: Ultra Deluxe too. At least to play the game itself. I never played it in 4k. Edit: What does that even meaaaan, Ultra Deluxe?!
I have both LFD2 and HL2. But not half life 1. How uh… Important is HL1?
Oh and both portal games, but I’ve beaten those a half dozen times.
HL1 is a great game, but not essential for enjoying 2.
This might eat into your weekend but, if you have a stronger PC somewhere at home, you should def consider streaming games from it instead of getting capped into 30fps. Just try Steam Remote Play (recently updated, no setup) or try Sunshine (or one of the forks, Vibeshine / Vibepollo / Moonshine / Polaris) & Moonlight.
Sadly I don’t have anything stronger, unless you count an Xbox Series S.
The only gaming PC I have access to is a low/mid range one that was built circa 2016 and runs Wuthering Waves (my benchmark game) pretty on par with my Deck, ignoring resolution changes.
Most games usually ran okay for me, but for those that didn’t I just changed the res to 1080 and it still looked great 🤷🏻♀️

Hades 2 runs at 4K 60fps, and the only place I’ve seen it lag is the Crossroads (the hub area, presumably because it’s larger than the actual levels)
Good stuff. I don’t have Hades 2, but I assume Hades has comparable performance. I’ll give it another try this weekend.
Hades 1 was one of the poster children for the Deck at launch so I’d expect it to have pretty good performance, but I played it before I got mine so I can’t confirm. If you enjoyed 1 then you’ll probably enjoy 2, it’s more of what you like!
I actually don’t have super strong opinions on Hades. Maybe it’s just because I have played gacha games with roguelike features, but it’s kind of frustrating to me to not be able to pick my build and properly level up or anything like that.
I’ll revisit Hades 1 this weekend and see if my opinion has changed, however.
I can’t speak for any gatcha games, but the appeal of roguelikes for me is that I can pick up the game, play a run, experience something new, and then be done; very handy when you don’t know how long or how frequently you’re going to be able to play. In-game experience is replaced by getting better at the game as you understand how it works etc. It’s fine not to like that though, they’re definitely not for everyone.
The try/die/repeat thing is what got me hooked on Elden Ring for a while. Maybe I’ll enjoy Hades more this time. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
