Two firefighting helicopters collided mid-air while battling a massive wildfire west of Athens, triggering a major search and rescue operation in Greece’s western Attica region. The Bell-type aircraft, leased by the Greek Fire Service, crashed during aerial water-dropping missions as strong winds complicated operations. At least one helicopter went down in a forest, igniting fresh flames. Each aircraft carried a two-person crew, and rescue teams later located both crews.
