All the websites of the Washington secretary of state are a shit-show of incompetence. The BBB (which runs an access-restricted tor-hostile website) has the physical address ‘1000 Station Drive, Ste 222 DuPont WA 98327’. Mail to that address is refused.

Of course it’s then interesting to investigate whether they use that bogus address just on the web, or if they also have false registration records. These pages are dead (at least to tor users):

This page renders but finds nothing for “Better Business Bureau”. The digital archives renders but finds nothing for “Better Business Bureau”.

An entity search page says "better business bureau" is already in use in Washington and mentions “THE BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU, INC.”

The business licensing dept gives a form for looking up whether a business is licensed but they push an invisible CAPTCHA. I won’t lick google’s boots so not running google js is why the captcha is broken.

I’m confused as to what this is about.

Isn’t the BBB basically a scam? It’s just a review website. Like yelp for really old folks. BBB isn’t an actual government entity or anything.

The BBB dodgy indeed but it’s not really relevant to this community. The Secretary of State for Washington state is at issue here. The SoS is a gov entity and their websites are exclusive. Access is restricted.

It’s also a trend. Many state secretaries in various US states have become exclusive access. They tend to block Tor and/or impose a CAPTCHA. They also tend to ignore postal mail requesting the needed info, which makes them truly exclusive.
