That being said, I think the real problem with the live action movie is that it got padded for time in bad ways, but neglected original material to do so. Had they just stuck to the book, the live action would be as good or better than the animated 77 movie.
The soundtrack thing is a matter of taste, though I tend to err on your side with this.
CGI though? Eh, it’s not a bad thing when done well. I don’t think its use in the live action was a worse idea than the rotiscope “original”, but it sure as hell wasn’t executed as it should have been. Because it was done poorly, the rotoscope ends up looking miles better.
