I’m using a 16gb ram machine and bought the pure optane drive for less than 10 dollars (converting from reais and adding the 2 day delivery), 16gb of ram is 15 times that rn.
As I’m using a swap partition with zswap on a LUKS encrypted drive, at least I’m expecting it to have better performance overall when hitting the swap.
If no one used, I might post about the performance difference later this week.
I’d be interested in seeing performance stats.
I once used an Optane as a cache for my HDD using lvmcache, and had a portion of it as swap, didn’t have any trouble with the swap part.

Why compress if you have 16gb ram and 16gb swap?
Swap is still slow. I’m using optane now (after this post) and it’s ok, not as fast as ram, but it works.
