    first the kurds become collaborators of the US and Israeli occupation of west asia and end up becoming subservient to ISIS in Syria because of it, now they are getting taken out by Iran for again working for US interests in the region and trying to topple the Iranian government. Maybe if they tried to collaborate with the people around them instead of the great Satan that is murdering hundreds of children in double and triple tap strikes, they wouldn’t get arrested for working for Israel and the US

      Working with the US or Israel doesn’t usually work out very well unless you are white, but the Kurds are kinda in a pickle no matter which way they look. Being a stateless people wedged between two of the most powerful nations in the region who are on the opposing sides of the geopolitical spectrum is not an envious position.

      They have a pretty tenuous history with every state their people have a foot hold. They have collaborated with their neighbors in the past, they have also been burned by those neighbors in the past. At the end of the day, syria, Iraq, Iran, and turkey have no real reason to cede territory to the Kurds for them to create a new state in the region outside of altruism.

      Now, that doesn’t mean I think you should collaborate with the US or Israel. That is historically a bad idea, especially in that region. However, I can see how someone would become desperate enough over time to do so.

        yes it is something many minority groups are pressured into and it has worked out negatively in each case

        in the case of Iran, there are many Kurds who are aligned with their government and don’t face issues, but if you are involved with separatism against your gov, especially allied with Israel and US against them, what do you expect that government to really do?

          Yeah, there’s a lot of different tribes in the Kurdish population with different levels of cross border cultural affiliations. So some of them have been perfectly fine with Iran and some of them have had issues since the early 1900s.

          That’s kinda where it gets complicated, where the separatist history predates the modern government of Iran, back to the early days of the Shah. I can see how a separatist Kurdish person could see some hypocrisy over the Iranian revolution when their victory over the Shah was only a temporary respite.

          Tbh I think it would have worked out better for everyone if the Republic of Mahabad which was established with the help of the Soviets would have survived. But yeah, it is a complex issue that prob won’t ever be completely solved until the idea of nation states is superceded by something better.
